Google Ads Beta Tests Product Titles Report for AI-Generated Shopping Ad Copy

What was announced

Google Ads has begun showing a new "Product titles" report to advertisers using AI Max for Shopping campaigns. The report reveals which product titles were generated by Google AI, how those titles compare to the advertiser's originals, and how they performed in terms of impressions, clicks, click-through rate, cost, and average CPC.

The report is part of Google's AI Max for Shopping campaigns suite, a beta feature set that uses Google AI to dynamically optimize Shopping ad copy and match it to complex, conversational search queries.

What changed

When advertisers enable text customisation within AI Max for Shopping campaigns, Google AI can rewrite product titles from the Merchant Center feed to better align with what a user is searching for. Previously, advertisers had limited visibility into exactly which AI-generated titles were appearing in their ads.

The new Product titles report provides a side-by-side view:

  • The customized product title created by Google AI
  • The original product title from the Merchant Center feed
  • Impressions, product clicks, CTR, cost, and average CPC for each AI-created title

According to the report text visible to advertisers: "This report shows a sample of product titles created by Google AI that showed in your ads. The product titles you provided will still be shown in ads when they're the most relevant."

AI-created product titles appear in the report once they have received enough impressions. Google notes that these titles show in ads "when they're more relevant than your original titles."

Details and availability

The Product titles report is available within the Google Ads interface for advertisers running Shopping campaigns with AI Max for Shopping enabled. It sits alongside other AI Max reporting tools, including the asset report (expanded final URL assets tab), the landing pages report, and the search terms report.

Advertisers can help Google AI create on-brand ad copy by adding text guidelines in their campaign settings. Google notes that if text guidelines were changed during the selected date period, some previously generated copy may still appear in the report even though it would not show in ads under the current guidelines.

Google's documentation states that advertisers who activate AI Max for Shopping "will typically see +5% more conversions/conversion value at a similar CPA/ROAS," based on Google internal data from 2026 for retail advertisers.

The AI Max for Shopping suite also includes final URL expansion, which can direct users to landing pages selected by Google AI from the advertiser's site when those pages better match the search intent.

Context

AI Max for Shopping campaigns is part of Google's broader effort to bring generative AI into its advertising products. The feature serves on traditional Shopping ad surfaces as well as on AI-driven surfaces such as AI Overviews in Google Search.

The text customisation capability is not limited to Shopping. Google has also rolled out text customisation for Search campaigns and Performance Max campaigns, where AI can generate headlines and descriptions from landing page content. Starting in September 2026, Google plans to make text customisation more broadly available across campaign types.

The introduction of a dedicated Product titles report signals that Google is moving toward greater transparency in how its AI systems modify advertiser-supplied content. For e-commerce teams, the report provides a way to audit whether AI-generated titles accurately represent their products and brand voice.

What has not been confirmed

  • Google has not published a specific announcement or blog post about the Product titles report rollout. The report's availability appears to be expanding gradually across advertiser accounts.
  • It is not clear what percentage of AI Max for Shopping advertisers currently have access to the report.
  • Google has not disclosed the specific AI model used to generate the product titles.
  • The extent to which AI-generated titles appear on AI Overviews or other generative search surfaces, versus standard Shopping ad placements, is not specified in the documentation.
