Stop guessing. Check anyHTTP status code.

Paste any URL and get accurate status codes, headers, timing, and server details in real time.

Paste up to 20 URLs, separated by new lines, spaces, or commas — check them all at once.

Enter at least one URL to see results here.

One check, the full picture

Batch up to 20 URLs

Paste any number of URLs — lines, spaces or commas — and duplicates are dropped automatically.

Every redirect hop

Follows the whole chain with each hop's status, location and timing; loops and endless chains are flagged.

Full headers & body

Status phrase, every response header, and the body of each URL — inspectable right in the report.

Per-hop timing

Total response time plus per-hop latency, so a slow redirect step is easy to spot.

Filter & CSV export

Narrow results by status code or search, then export the whole report to CSV.

Crawler & browser agents

Re-check each URL as Googlebot, Bingbot or your own browser — see exactly what each visitor gets.

Broken links cost you traffic

Dead pages rank, but kill conversions

A 404 or a flooded redirect chain erodes crawl budget and sends visitors to nothing. You usually find out months later.

Bots see different pages than browsers

Keep-alive firewalls and crawl rules can change a status code depending on which user agent asks. One check from each side shows the difference.

Spreadsheet checks don't scale

Sending 20 URLs through a browser tab one by one is slow and error-prone. Batch status checks with CSV export keep the whole site honest.

How the status check works

  1. 01

Paste up to 20 URLs, one per line. Bare domains are normalized to https://.

  2. 02

Pick a user agent (Googlebot, Bingbot, curl, browser) and add up to 5 custom headers if you need them.

  3. 03

Run the check and read the status code, redirect chain with per-hop timing, response headers, and total time.

  4. 04

Export the whole result set to CSV so it lands in your tracking sheet immediately.

Read the status code in context

  • 200 and 204 mean the page answered cleanly; 3xx codes are only a problem when the chain loops or never terminates.
  • A single hop is normal — permanent redirects (301/308) are page identity changes worth tracking, and temporary ones (302/307) leave the old URL in play.

HTTP status code reference

Every HTTP status code, explained in plain language.

Search the full list of 1xx to 5xx statuses and understand what each response means — and when to worry.

How to use this reference Search by code number or by name (redirect, auth, timeout). The code alone rarely tells the whole story — pair each status with the redirect chain and response headers from the status checker.

Every month, thousands of professionals rely on httpstatus.io for fast, reliable checks.

What users say

“We've been using httpstatus.io over and over again; a simple yet super powerful tool with loads of neat features such as mass testing (especially handy e.g. for migration testing), one-click exports (to process the data further) as well a clean interface with understandable info. All in all a great tool!”
Bastian Grimm — Peak Ace
“Gotta love simple and free checkers like httpstatus.io for bulk http status validation, especially handful when "double verifying" weird redirect behavior.”
Aleyda Solis — Orainti
“Shout-out to httpstatus.io which I end up coming back to now and then. Good functionality with a nice, clean UI with a ton of options as you dig in.”
Dr. Pete Meyers — drpete.co
“httpstatus.io is an amazing tool to quickly bulk test redirects after a migration, finding redirect chains and http status codes. A very nifty tool for any seo who's serious about migrations. Highly recommend it.”
Arnout Hellemans — OnlineMarkethink
“httpstatus.io is the service I use to show developers and SEO stakeholders what HTTP status codes their web pages are returning. The service is useful and straightforward. It should be in every SEO strategists & consultants toolkit!”
Garrett Nafzinger — Garrett Digital
“This should be your go-to tool for checking HTTP status codes, especially for multiple URL's at once. httpstatus.io comes with advanced features, intuitive UX and a reliable performance.”

Frequently asked questions

How many URLs can I check at once?+

Up to 20 URLs per check, one per line. Each repeated URL is only checked once.

Do I need an account or login?+

No. The tool is free and anonymous; a quick human verification is required on each check to keep the service fair.

What does the redirect chain tell me?+

Every hop with its status code, Location target, and time. A loop or more than 10 hops is reported instead of hanging.

Can I mimic a crawler or a curl request?+

Yes. Seven fixed user agents are available (Googlebot, Bingbot, Yandexbot, Baiduspider, curl, Chrome, default), plus custom headers for cases where a firewall checks them.

Which status codes hurt SEO?+

Permanent 3xx chains and 4xx errors waste crawl budget; 404s and 410s are fine answers for genuinely gone pages, while 500/502/503 during crawl mean real problems.

What is the difference between 301 and 302?+

301 and 308 are permanent — search engines migrate the URL identity. 302 and 307 are temporary, so the old URL keeps its standing.

Why is a 429 not a 4xx typo?+

429 (Too Many Requests) means rate limiting. Check the Retry-After header and slow down instead of retrying harder.

Should I fix every 4xx I find?+

No. First check the chain: a 404 that redirects is very different from a dead link. Fix broken links with traffic, and leave genuinely removed pages alone.

Check your links before your visitors do

Batch status code checks, redirect chains, and response headers — free, no login, CSV ready.
